Dishwasher Repairs
Many problems with dishwashers are caused by clogging and are remedied
by cleaning trapped debris out of the screen (right) or drain hose.
Getting inside the dishwasher pump to unclog it or replace corroded
dishwasher parts (below) requires a bit more patience, but offers
no great difficulties. However, if you must replace a dishwasher
timer , take extra care to make sure you hook up the numerous wires
they are color coded to the new timer exactly the same as they were
on the old one.
Before starting any dishwasher repair work suggested here, remember
to turn off power to the dishwasher circuit by either removing the
fuse or tripping the circuit breaker at the service panel.
Cleaning or repairing the pump
If your dishwasher fails to wash or washes poorly, it the motor
will not run, or if the water does not drain out, the pump is probably
at fault. It may be clogged with debris or detergent. or parts may
be corroded. The dishwasher impellers are the parts most likely
to need replacement.
To clean or replace dishwasher pump parts, remove all the parts
in sequence starting with the nut shown at the top of this page
and proceeding down to the motor shaft. (The parts sketched here
are typical, but details may differ.) Lay the parts out in a line
so you can put back the good ones in correct order. Discard the
0-ring and put in a new one, since used seals seldom work well.
